Laura helps her mother wash dishes. She so enjoys rolling up her sleeves and doing her job. She is now big enough to reach the sink without a stool! Mary watches baby Carrie and Pa plays his fiddle in front of the fire.
Now that she has finished her chores, Laura runs out to play in the snow. “Be sure to bundle up,” says Ma, “it is cold out there.” Laura is enchanted by the sparkling snow, the icicles hanging from the eaves and the way she can see her breath in the frigid winter air.
